Yapping in the Sandhills:2

The past few weeks have been mainly trying to find our new schedule…Which is essentially no schedule. While that is an adjustment, I have been setting up the house. It is an older style home, which I LOVE. With all my new spare time I’ve made bread, cinnamon rolls and Josh’s birthday cake. The cake needed half of the sugar and butter the recipe called for so we only enjoyed it once. Insurance is too expensive for us to get diabetes. I’ll be searching for a new cake recipe for his next birthday. He requested binoculars for his birthday which I assumed was for looking at the wildlife. While I was somewhat right, I was quickly corrected that it was for sighting in his rifle….to remove prairie dogs.

We haven’t been in town a month and we’ve already made three trips to the vet. As everyone knows, Barn is just SO athletic he has managed to tear his ACL. The vet, not knowing Barn very well, said “oh he must be such an athlete”. I just laughed because he is the antithesis of an athlete. I am now on the hunt for the perfect red wagon to pull him around so he can still go for walks with us. All in all, best case scenario for our partially blind, temperamentally deaf, and toothless, elderly boy.

Our weekend was full of springtime “adventures”. Josh attended a branding so I took the day to replant most of my house plants. I also planted some cosmos and zinnias in a pot using old seeds I harvested so stay tuned to see how those turn out! On Sunday, we walked to the tennis courts and played pickleball for the first time. We will not be competing anytime soon but we enjoyed it. As a whole, we are beginning to find our new normal as gracefully as possible.
